To live a sustainable life it is important to reuse, reduce and recycle at home. However, before getting to this point it is important to be conscious of the products you are purchasing and choose eco-friendly products to help stop plastic pollution.
According to Think Reusable, only about 9% of all plastic ever made has likely been recycled with 12% of all plastic waste having been incinerated. The remaining 79% has accumulated in either landfill or the natural environment if not still in use. Think reusable made a list of eco friendly products to help you replace plastic products at home. By replacing them, you can virtually eliminate your single-use plastic waste in that area and by purchasing recycled plastic products you are helping to close the loop of the circular economy.
When shopping at the supermarket, eliminate plastic bags by using reusable bags for bread, produce, bulk foods and the rest of the shopping list. Also, consider eco-friendly products when going out on picnics, or preparing your lunchbox. They recommend reusable lunch wraps, recycled and recycled cutlery, compostable plates and bowls, and finally some cloth napkins.
For personal accessories Think Reusable recommends Recycled Ocean Plastic Eyewear, which is sold by a company called Sea2see, which collects ocean plastic waste, nets, and ropes. Collecting an average of one tonne of plastic waste every second day, selected plastic waste is used as the raw material for their eyeglasses. They also recommend other accessories like side bags made from recycled plastic bottles, vinyl wallets, recycled plastic backpacks, eco-friendly phone cases, and umbrellas made from 100% recycled plastic.
Also, it's great to consider your pets to also live a sustainable life. Some examples are Certified Compostable Dog Waste Disposal Bags, sustainable cat dishes made from bamboo materials, and Recycled Dog Collars and Leashes made from recycled plastic.
Finally, make your home eco friendly and replace things at home with sustainable products like compostable bin liners, recycled toilet tissues, recycled plastic toothbrushes, recycled plastic rugs, ballpoint pens made from recycled water bottles, toys made from recycled milk jugs, biodegradable garden pots and some eco touch technology.
